How to clean stainless steel jewelry?

Bracelet cordon résistant acier inoxydable AGALINO

You've made the best possible choice for your daily life: opting for robust accessories that go everywhere with you. As we explain in our Guide to jewelry in the shower and during sports, at AGALINO, our creations are designed to live with you, day and night.

However, even if our stainless steel is unalterable and never rusts, everyday life inevitably leaves some traces. Sunscreen, perspiration, limescale from water, or cosmetic residues can eventually leave a slight dull film on the metal parts or slightly stiffen your cord.

Fortunately, steel is the easiest metal to maintain. Here is our complete guide on how to clean stainless steel jewelry in a few minutes, with what you already have in your cupboards.

Daily cleaning: Soft water and soap

For the regular maintenance of your bracelets, there's no need for harsh chemicals or special silver cleaners. Simplicity is your best ally.

  • Warm water: Simply run your bracelet under a stream of water.
  • Mild soap: Use a drop of Marseille soap or classic dish soap. These degreasing products are perfect for dissolving moisturizer or sebum residues.
  • Cord massage: Gently rub the colored cord between your fingers to create a good lather and dislodge impurities embedded in the fibers.
  • Drying: Rinse thoroughly and pat the jewelry dry with a clean towel. Our high-tenacity cord is designed to air dry very quickly, saving you that unpleasant wet wrist sensation.

The post-swim reflex: Rinsing

As we explain in detail in our Guide to Summer Jewelry, AGALINO bracelets are not affected by chlorine or sea salt.

However, when seawater evaporates, salt crystallizes inside the cord fibers, which can make it feel a little rough to the touch. Similarly, fine sand can get into the crevices of our secure clasp.

The solution? As soon as you return from the beach or the pool, rinse your bracelet thoroughly with clear water. You can simply keep it on when you take your post-swim shower!

The trick for deep cleaning: Baking soda

After a few months, especially if the water in your region is very hard, stainless steel can lose a tiny percentage of its mirror shine. This is the time for a deep clean.

  1. Take a small bowl and mix one teaspoon of water with one teaspoon of baking soda to form a paste (a pea-sized amount of classic toothpaste also works very well).
  2. Use a very soft-bristled toothbrush to avoid scratching the metal.
  3. Gently rub the beads and the clasp, focusing on small crevices.
  4. Rinse with warm water and dry with a soft cloth (microfiber type). The result is immediate: your steel regains its original shine.

What to absolutely avoid

Although stainless steel is extremely resistant, there are two major mistakes to avoid when maintaining it:

  • Pure bleach: While highly diluted chlorine from a swimming pool is harmless, concentrated bleach from your household products can attack the metal and permanently alter the color of your cord. Remember to remove your jewelry during heavy household chores.
  • Abrasive sponges: Never use the abrasive (green) side of a sponge or a wire brush, as this risks creating irreversible micro-scratches on the smooth surface of your findings.

The advantage of AGALINO craftsmanship is that with a little water, soap, and five minutes of your time, your jewelry will remain as impeccable as when you first opened its pouch. Enjoy your bracelets to the fullest, without any constraints!
